Technician repairing an Over-The-Range built-in microwave

Expert Built-In & Over-The-Range Microwave Repair

A microwave is arguably the most frequently used appliance in a modern kitchen. When your Over-The-Range (OTR) or custom built-in microwave suddenly stops heating, sparks, or goes completely dead, replacing it involves complicated unmounting, ductwork adjustments, and high installation costs. Our specialized repair service saves you the hassle.

A Safety Warning: Microwaves operate using a high-voltage capacitor that can hold a lethal electrical charge—even after the unit is unplugged from the wall. DIY microwave repair is incredibly dangerous. Our licensed Neatlyon technicians are trained to safely discharge these capacitors and accurately diagnose complex issues involving the magnetron, diode, or door interlock switches.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not sure if your microwave is worth saving? Here are the most common questions our GTA technicians get regarding microwave repairs.

This is a classic symptom of a failed high-voltage component. In most cases, either the magnetron (the part that generates the microwaves) or the high-voltage diode has burned out. Our technicians can test these components with specialized meters and replace the faulty part to restore heating power.
Turn it off immediately! Sparking (or arcing) is usually caused by exposed metal, but if you haven't put metal inside, the culprit is likely a burned or grease-soaked "waveguide cover." This is the small cardboard-like sheet inside the microwave cavity. We can clean the cavity and replace the cover safely.
It depends on the type. If you have a $100 countertop model, it is usually cheaper to buy a new one. However, if you have a built-in microwave, a combination microwave/oven wall unit, or an Over-The-Range (OTR) model, replacement costs between $500 and $1,200 plus installation. In these cases, a repair is highly cost-effective and highly recommended.
